Transit Custom Hi-Top

This remit for this conversion was to ensure the stealthy outward appearance would totally deny any notion that a truly unique campervan was on the inside. With the bulkhead retained, the layout was based on a convertible seat / bed system instead of incorporating the cab seats. The service points are all discreetly hidden to ensure there are no fixings on the side of the vehicle.

The sliding door gives access to the L-shaped kitchen area and then to the seating area which converts into a bed. There is no shower room, but there is a hot water system that feeds the sink and an outside shower point.

The two bench seats are 6ft and 5’7” long respectively and could seat six people. The removable island table is stowed on the inside of the rear door when not in use to give an open walkway.

If the 6’ bench base is pulled out on its extender legs, a 2’9” single bed is made and the shorter bench remains as a seat for when there is a lone occupant. With both benches extended, a queen-size double bed is formed. The kitchen area is still accessible when the bed is made.

The L-shaped kitchen pod has an integrated gas hob / sink, microwave and a small compressor fridge. The water is stored in a 40 litre underslung tank and is heated by a Whale Expanse system.

The smaller bench seat has an access door from which a porta-loo can slide out when the bed is made. Hot water is readily available from the gas / electric water heater which supplies the external shower point. With the back doors open, the hose allows for a good warm shower when there is privacy.
